Guest Spotlight

The current Guest Spotlight shines on CHARLES DAY

Originally Miami FL., Charles Day came to Georgia as an 8 years old child. He connected with Threshold in Feb 2020 at the beginning of his homelessness. He states that the cause of his homelessness was loss of his disability benefits. He is physically disabled and through a mishap of his review he was denied the renewal of his benefits which was the catalyst that spiraled him into homelessness. It took 2 and a half years to get his
social security benefits back and another 20 months to find housing.

He worked with other social service organizations. When asked about his support system during his homelessness, he smiles as he talks about family and friends who looked out for him and brought him food. He says, “Some people don’t have a support system I had sisters and a friend who looked out for me.  A support system means that when times get rough, you have a place to eat from time to time. When times were the hardest for me, and the churches ran out of Kroger or Marta Cards, I knew I could be alright because I had someone to call. Some people don’t have anyone to call.

He reflects on how he almost gave up, “You’ve tried everything that you can, but still you outside rain sleet or snow. I experienced a lot of disrespect out there for almost four years. People know that you are homeless, when you’re pushing a shopping cart, and they don’t care or show you respect.”  Seeming to look past me and into a time in his past, Charles adds “People die in the streets”.  He prayed because God answers prayers. He
asked God to bring him out of homelessness and He did.  Charles had heard of the person at Threshold helping folks get into housing, Charles, reached out to Leslie for an appointment with Michael Turner.  Michael completed an assessment, and he received a call the next day and within a month he was housed. Charles credits having Michael Turner at Threshold was the gateway to ending my homelessness.

What I like most about my place is the peace of mind. No one can tell me to get out.  What Threshold means to me. I tried everything but Threshold Ministry was in my face the whole time and if not for being able to approach the staff at Threshold for an appointment with a community partner I would not have found my housing.

What I want to share with the world is that every homeless person ain’t the same” and what I want to share
with Threshold is “God Bless you to keep helping those that want to be helped and I thank God that you are
here.”
